Alicia Karlsson

Grammar School Music Instructor

Vocal Performance, Biola University

I am thrilled to be joining the Caritas Family this year as the grammar school music teacher. My love for music began as a child singing in my church choir on Christmas Eve and then gradually continued as I was given opportunities through the christian school I attended to participate in numerous musicals and choirs. This carried on into my High School and college years, and are some of my best memories.   I love giving that same opportunity to the children I teach.

I graduated from Biola University with a degree in Vocal Performance where I studied opera, and I have been singing, teaching, and performing ever since. I have had the privilege of teaching children of all ages in various forms of music including in the classroom as a music teacher, a musical director, a youth choir director, and an individual voice teacher through Karlsson Music Studio.  I am excited to bring my experience and expertise to the Caritas family and looking forward to sharing my love of music and the arts.

One of the joys of teaching elementary music is getting the opportunity to help each child discover their musical potential and God given talent. Whether that be through learning about the orchestral instruments, singing along with the hymn of the month, or listening to a famous composer there are so many ways to introduce music to the students.  One of the greatest moments I have in the classroom is to see that sparkle in the eye of a child when they begin to connect to a musical concept or an experience and find a love for music.

Most importantly I love teaching in a christian environment where I am able to share my love for Christ and his Word with the students. There is such a beautiful connection between music and our worship to the Lord. I look forward to the many opportunities I will have to incorporate the two together.

My life verse is Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual act of worship.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy, writing music, singing at church, playing games and watching movies with my family, and taking walks out in nature.
